BEFORE GUILDFLUENT

Your teacher has worked in the situations you’re preparing for.

My professional career began in 1992 and has included senior sales, commercial and general-management roles, including service as a CEO. I have led teams, developed people, managed customer relationships and worked through the practical demands of international business.

I have lived and worked across the UK, United States, Germany, Italy and Hong Kong, while doing business more widely around the world. That experience shapes an acute awareness that successful international communication is about much more than grammatical correctness.

It requires clarity, judgement, listening, diplomacy and the ability to respond when the conversation does not follow the script. Those are the realities GUILDFluent lessons are designed to reflect.

EXPERIENCE IN PERSPECTIVE

Business experience is not a substitute for teaching expertise. It makes the teaching more relevant.

GUILDFluent combines two disciplines: an understanding of professional situations and formal training in how languages are learned and taught.

01

Professional context

An understanding of meetings, leadership, customer relationships, persuasion, negotiation, reporting and cross-cultural work.

02

Language-teaching method

Level 5 TEFL and Business English training, with structured input, purposeful practice, feedback and recycling.

03

Personalisation

Your role, level, objectives and real communication situations determine the programme—not a generic course sequence.

MY TEACHING APPROACH

English is the tool. Effective communication is the outcome.

A lesson should prepare you to do something that matters—not simply complete an exercise.

01

Start with real situations

Lessons are built around communication you genuinely use or need: explaining, questioning, participating, influencing, responding and building relationships.

02

Teach the language properly

Useful language is explored for meaning, form, pronunciation and use, then practised with increasing freedom and realism.

03

Build independent performance

Feedback is designed to help you notice patterns, make better language choices and communicate more confidently without constant support.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU

You do not need to explain professional life before we can work on your English.

We can focus more quickly on the communication itself: what you need to say, how you want to sound and what the other person needs to understand.

— realistic preparation for important conversations

— language connected to your role and objectives

— feedback that respects your professional expertise

— practice designed for transfer beyond the lesson

QUALIFICATIONS

Professional experience, supported by formal teaching expertise.

Level 5 TEFL qualified · 30-hour Business English specialist training

The role of your English teacher is to develop how effectively you communicate—not to judge the professional decisions you choose to make.
